I am a mad keen photographer and this link shows a sample of my work.

I am particularly keen on photographing nature, wildlife - particularly birds, landscapes and patterns in nature.

Bio:

Australian, living in Montevideo with my fiancee Silvia who is Uruguayan. Travelling around and seeing a lot of Uruguay, particularly natural areas. Gradually making progress with learning Spanish.

This year we will be overseas a few times for a month or so at a time and so far we have no permanent abode here in Uruguay. If anyone wants a responsible couple, neat, non-smokers to house sit for a period of time please contact me. From now till the end of November 2012 we will be here apart from three periods away which in total are about eleven weeks.

Its nice

Its nice~~Last time I was arriving in Montevideo I wandered through and put the bags through the scanners and was about... like that into my country.

I must say it is nice to be in a place where there may be a bit less need for security. ...

we learn together

we learn together~~I find it really interesting that I can explain any Spanish to anyone. Mine is improving but it is... something like (what passes good" or "let what happens be good". They use it to say in effect "Have a good day."...

comanda

comanda~~What is being said is "Como anda?" or very often the familia form "Como andas?" Of course when locals have two... be translated as "How are you walking?" which is practically the same as the English greeting "how are you going?"...

spanish from the movies

spanish from the movies~~Come on now, "No problemo" only proves you have watched some movies, not that you know any... a smile from my local friends. It may be correct Spanish but it is not used here in Uruguay - go to Mexico for that....

Cold wet and windy

Cold wet and windy~~Humidity is almost always high, greater than 80% so things won't dry out. Frequent rainy days even... pleasant on the days when the wind stops and the sun is shining.

Come and enjoy it but bring a jacket just in case....

Man powered machines

Man powered machines~~I am fascinated by any machining tasks achieved without motors. African craftsmen wood turn on... by their foot driving a cord around a spindle. Great ingenuity that we tend to lose when the need does not drive us....

Perhaps "What brings you to Uruguay?" or "How... would be a better conversation starter?"

Perhaps "What brings you to Uruguay?" or "How long are you in Uruguay for?"...

Interpreter

Interpreter~~Uruguay has lots of doctors.

I would think a very relevant question is if you need an interpreter to get... going to manage to practice without mastery of the language. Most people in Uruguay have no English or very little. ...

it is a useful label~~Lets face it, if it is a one off question then it doesn't really matter anyway. If it is part of... even heard of a Patrick or two from other places. Those labels seem to be used with given names rather than Surnames....

a good edge~~I carry my stone and steel with me most places I travel here in Uruguay and leave a trail of sharp knives... about Uruguay along with dog walkers with a dozen or so dogs and the clip clop of the horse drawn recycling carts....
