Bio:

We are New Yorkers who have done many things with our lives. We have lived in big cities, New York City and Los Angeles, and small cities, Portland, OR, and Seattle, and small towns Lewisburg, PA and Tigard, OR, amongst several others. We have lived, for a short period, in Dublin, Ireland and Belfast, Northern Ireland. We have visited several countries and for the most part have had a good time and never have we had a problem.

We are now retired but not in our sixties. I am an avid photographer and my wife is a runner, marathons. Taking a page out of, “A Year in Provence” we decided to live abroad. We did not consider Uruguay as a destination because we were unfamiliar with it. While researching BA I came across Montevideo. We think that Uruguay might be a good fit for us. We do not plan to be investors or party animals but rather just ordinary people.

We plan on visiting Uruguay this August and if all checks out, make the move in June 2011. We are enrolling in Spanish language classes at the local University this June and the Fall and Spring semesters.

Tax for renters?

Tax for renters? ~~I have searched the rental information on this site and have found much info; however, after reading... an additional charge for tax. If this is the case, how is the tax paid and to whom?

How accessible is Uruguay for people with physical disabilities?

Anyone have information as to how accessible Uruguay is for people with physical disabilities? I looked at “Una Noche... is hardly an issue; however, I have no clue about Uruguay.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Basic currency question

Would someone please let me know what are the following values?

U$S 100 = U.S. dollars, I think.

$U 100 = Uruguay... 100 = U.S. dollars, I think.

$U 100 = Uruguay Peso?

$ 1.700, 00 = Uruguay Peso?

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 578913176
