Hopefully it will coalesce into something meaningful on "The Uruguay Experience" for ME at least! As such comments and suggestions are welcome. home page: Living in Montevideo Self-explanatory. I guess this is the space for trying to promote oneself with some minimum of grace and decorum. IF you or someone you know needs an apartment here in Montevideo, or help with residency or relocation, we may be able to help you. Bio: At 17 I first discovered the ex-pat life. I spent 5 months in Spain learning Spanish with ragged, dog-earred copies of Hemingway's Stories and Death in the Afternoon stashed under my pillow. 30 yrs later here I am in Uruguay, having made extended stops in Barcelona, Mexico and Argentina bracketed around a brief 20 yrs spent in Maine, accumulating all the stuff I then gave up (almost giddily) to return to the Spanish-speaking world 5+ yrs ago. I like living in Montevideo. For some reason it feels like Nice in the 1950s, (a black-and-white version where Cary Grant and Grace Kelly share martinis in a private cove on the Riviera.) When I Walk the Rambla here, it kind of feels like that, if I squint real hard. This is a capital city on a human scale, more a collection of small towns snapped together like multi-colored Leggo blocks. I like walking here, getting into conversations whether purposeful or not. My wife Myrna (who is Argentine) and I have an apartment-rental website and we help people re-locate and navigate the residency process. Myrna is a great cook, she even makes Bagels!
